Description
Acer palmatum (scientific name: Acer palmatum Thunb.) is a deciduous small tree in the family Aceraceae; the crown is umbrella-shaped. The bark is smooth. The bark is dark gray. The branchlets are purple or lilac green, and the old branches are grayish purple. The leaves are nearly round, heart-shaped or nearly heart-shaped at the base, palmate, often 7 deep parted, densely serrated. The posterior leaves bloom; the flowers are purple, polysexual, and the male and bisexual flowers are on the same plant; the corymbs are inflorescences. Sepals ovate-lanceolate; petals elliptic or obovate. The young fruit is purple-red, brownish-yellow when ripe, with a spherical core, prominent veining, and two obtuse wings. Flower and fruit period from May to September.
Distributed in East China, Central China to Southwest China and other provinces. Born in low-altitude forest or sparse forest. North Korea and Japan are also distributed. Many countries have long been introduced and cultivated, among which red maple and feather maple are commonly used as garden trees.
Acer palmatum likes the sun, avoid shooting from the west, and scorching the leaves when shooting from the west. It is more shade-tolerant and grows well under the shade of tall trees. Strong resistance to sulfur dioxide and smoke. Its leaf shape is beautiful, it turns bright red after autumn, the color is as bright as flower, brilliant as rosy, it is an excellent foliage tree species.
