Description

Our plump and mature red willow seeds have stable germination rate and strong vitality. Red willow is a perennial deciduous willow shrub famous for its bright red new branches, especially eye-catching in winter when leaves fall off. It possesses outstanding comprehensive resistance: extreme cold resistance, flood tolerance, waterlogging endurance, drought resistance and barren soil adaptability, with a developed fibrous root system that tightly locks soil particles.

It is the preferred species for waterway revetment, riverbank anti-scouring, mountain slope consolidation, desert sand fixation and shelterbelt construction. Seedlings grow fast with vigorous tillering ability, can form dense clumps in 2 years, and bear catkin seeds normally in the third year. Widely applied for water conservancy ecological greening, roadside landscape embellishment, wetland vegetation restoration and courtyard winter ornamental planting. It can grow in moist sandy soil and river silt, but heavy compact clay with poor permeability should be avoided to prevent root rot caused by long-term anaerobic conditions. Planting Instructions

Soil Preparation
Mix river sand, garden loam and a small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer to make loose breathable substrate. For field sowing, choose slightly elevated seedbeds or well-drained river sand beds; red willow likes moist environment but cannot endure long-term submerged water.
Seed Pre-treatment
Red willow seeds have very shallow dormancy. Remove fluff and impurities first, soak seeds in room-temperature clean water for 12 hours to fully absorb water. No long-term low-temperature stratification needed; fresh seeds have the highest germination activity and should be sown promptly after collection.
Sowing Method
Sprinkle tiny seeds evenly on the surface of moist sandy soil, cover with an ultra-thin layer of fine sand about 0.2cm, gently mist spray to keep the top layer wet. Do not bury deeply, otherwise germination will be blocked. Keep seedbed moist all the time after sowing.
Germination Condition
Keep substrate consistently slightly wet without obvious ponding water, optimal germination temperature 15–25°C. Seeds germinate quickly within 5–12 days. Cover breathable non-woven fabric or thin plastic film to maintain humidity before sprouting.
Daily Maintenance
Place red willow seedlings under full sunlight all year round; insufficient light leads to weak branches and faded red color of stems. Keep soil moderately moist in growing season, drain rainwater thoroughly in rainy seasons to avoid root rot. Thin dense seedlings when height reaches 15cm, trim overlong branches annually to promote clustered branching and bright red new shoot growth.
