Description

SEED CHARACTERISTICS

Alfalfa, also called lucerne, is the top-grade perennial legume forage seed with high purity and excellent germination rate. Seeds are plump, uniform in size, fully cleaned with low impurity content and no moldy or broken kernels. It owns ultra-deep taproot system with prominent drought resistance, cold resistance and barren soil adaptability, able to absorb deep underground water and nutrients. As a typical nitrogen-fixing legume crop, root nodules fix atmospheric nitrogen to increase soil nitrogen content, raise organic matter and improve hardened low-yield farmland greatly. Alfalfa is known as “King of Forage”, featuring extremely high crude protein, rich vitamins and minerals, palatable for cattle, sheep, goats, horses and rabbits for fresh grazing, hay processing and silage storage. It can be mowed multiple times each year with strong regrowth ability after cutting. Deep root system firmly locks topsoil, effectively prevents hillside soil loss and water runoff, widely applied in ecological slope protection and orchard intercropping green manure.

PLANTING METHOD

Sowing Time: Spring and early autumn are ideal sowing seasons, optimal growing temperature 12°C–25°C.
Soil Preparation: Deep tillage to loosen soil, remove weeds and soil clods. Neutral to slightly alkaline well-drained soil is preferred; avoid low-lying waterlogged land to prevent root rot.
Sowing Method: Evenly broadcast seeds on soil surface, cover with 0.5–1cm thin fine topsoil, compact slightly to ensure full seed-soil contact.
Water Management: Keep topsoil slightly moist continuously within 2–3 weeks after sowing for neat germination; drain accumulated rainwater timely in rainy seasons.
Later Care: No extra nitrogen fertilizer needed after establishment. Conduct first cutting when budding stage arrives, leave 5–7cm stubble height to guarantee rapid regrowth. Apply appropriate phosphorus and potassium fertilizer after each harvest.

FAQ

Q1: Why is alfalfa called the king of forage?
A1: It has the highest protein content among common forages, high yield, multiple harvests per year and comprehensive feeding value for all kinds of livestock.
Q2: Can alfalfa improve soil fertility?
A2: Yes, root nodules fix nitrogen naturally to fertilize soil, reduce chemical fertilizer input for subsequent crops and repair degraded soil.
Q3: How long does alfalfa seeds take to germinate?
A3: Under suitable temperature and humidity, seeds germinate in 7–12 days, forming stable productive pasture in around 8 weeks.
Q4: Is alfalfa tolerant to drought?
A4: Very drought-resistant thanks to deep taproots, suitable for dry land pasture construction and hillside ecological greening.

SHIPPING & PACKAGING

Seeds are sealed with professional moisture-proof, breathable and anti-mold inner packaging bags to avoid damp deterioration and extrusion damage during long-distance international transportation. Outer carton uses shockproof buffer materials for full protection, and trackable logistics is available for delivery status inquiry.

STORAGE TIPS

Store unopened seeds in cool, dry, dark and well-ventilated environment, keep far away from high temperature, humid air and direct sunlight. Tightly reseal the package immediately after opening to prevent moisture absorption and seed vitality loss. Proper storage can effectively retain germination activity and extend shelf life for the next planting season.
