When raising seedlings in late April, it is better to choose a sunny place for the seedbed. The seeds are evenly scattered in the ditch, and then covered with soil. Sow the seeds evenly on the border surface and cover the soil by 2-3 cm. Mu with 3-4 kilograms of seeds, should be covered with a layer of straw after sowing, watered frequently to maintain soil moisture, and the grass should be removed after the seedlings grow. The seedlings are thinned when the height of the seedlings is about 3 cm, and the planting can be carried out at about 10 cm. Soil preparation and fertilization: Choose loam, sandy loam or humus loam with deep, well-drained, loose and fertile, sunny loam. Mu Shi farmyard manure 2000 kg. The first top dressing is to apply clear manure water in May, about 1000 kg per mu; the second time is to apply human manure in June when the seedlings are at their peak, with about 1250 kg per mu, or 5 kg per mu. Ammonium sulfate fertilizer; the third top dressing should be before flowering in August, using 1000-1500 kg of human manure per mu, and at the same time adding appropriate amount of plant ash and superphosphate.

Irrigation and drainage: In case of drought, water should be timely to keep the soil moist. In the rainy season, attention should be paid to timely drainage and waterlogging prevention, so as to avoid rotten roots and dead seedlings, reducing yield and quality.

Bud removal: During the budding period from July to August, the flower buds should be removed in time for the Atractylodes japonica plants that are not reserved for planting, so as to facilitate the growth of the underground part.

Harvesting and processing: Home-grown Atractylodes can only be harvested after 2 years of growth. Northern Atractylodes can be excavated in both spring and autumn, but the quality of excavation from late autumn to early spring before the end of the seedlings is unearthed is good. After excavated, remove the stems, leaves and soil, dry it to 50% dry before putting it in a basket, knock off some fibrous roots, and the skin turns dark brown; when it is 60 to 70% dry, hit it again to remove all the old skin ; When it is completely dry, hit it once at the end to make the skin yellowish brown, and it will become a commodity. Those with a large size, firm quality, many cinnabar points on the cross-section, and strong aroma are preferred. About 200 kilograms of dried medicinal materials can be produced per mu.
