Description
Berberis thunbergii (scientific name: Berberis thunbergii var. atropurpurea Chenault), alias: Hongye barberry, Berberis, Berberis, Berberis. It is native to southern Northeast China, North China and Qinling Mountains. It mostly grows in forest margins or open spaces about 1000 meters above sea level. Deciduous shrubs, bushy branches, young branches purple or dark red, old branches gray-brown or purple-brown. The leaves are small and whole, rhomboid or obovate, purplish red to bright red, and the back color of the leaves is slightly lighter. It blooms in April and the flowers are yellow. The fruit is oval, bright red and beautiful after ripening.
Berberis thunbergii has strong adaptability, is sunny and resistant to half shade, but some leaves will turn green when the light is poor or the density is too high. Cold-resistant, but not afraid of heat and high temperature, resistant to pruning. Gardens often use evergreen tree species as a block color layout, which can be used to arrange flower beds and flower mirrors. It is an important tree species for color block combination in landscaping.
