Herbs perennial, stemless. Leaf blade oblong-lanceolate, 25-45 cm long, 10 cm wide, acute at the top, round or wedge-shaped at the base, and wavy at the lower edge; petiole slender.
Several flowers are born on a common pedicel about as long as the petiole or slightly shorter, with a spathe below; spathe boat-shaped, up to 20 cm long, green, purplish red edge, sepals lanceolate, 7.5- long 10 cm, orange-yellow, with auricular lobes at the base of arrow-shaped petals, nearly as long as sepals, dark blue; stamens as long as petals; anthers narrowly linear, style prominent, stigma 3.
Strelitzia is a subtropical long-day plant. It likes a warm, humid, sunny environment, fears severe cold, avoids extreme heat, avoids drought, and avoids waterlogging. Requires well-drained loose, fertile, sandy loam with pH 6-7. The optimum temperature during the growth period is 20-28°C.
