Description
Cassia fistula (scientific name: Cassia fistula L.): It is a plant of the genus Cassia of the leguminous family. Deciduous tree, up to 15 meters high; slender branches; bark gray, rough in old age, dark brown. Leaf length 30-40 cm, small leaves opposite, thin leathery, broad-ovate, ovate or oblong, with whole edges, both sides are puberulent when young, and glabrous when old; leaf veins are slender, both sides are obvious . Racemes up to 30 cm or longer, sparse, drooping; flowers and leaves open at the same time, about 4 cm in diameter; petals are yellow, obovate, nearly equal in size, with distinct veins. The pods are cylindrical, 30-60 cm long, dark brown, not cracked, with flutes; 40-100 seeds, separated by a diaphragm. Flowering period from June to August; fruiting period in October.
Cultivated in all provinces and regions in southern and southwestern China. Native to India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. This species is a common garden ornamental tree in the south.
