Description
Siamese senna (scientific name: Cassia siamea Lam.), named for its hard material and difficult access to swords and axes. An evergreen tree of the genus Cassia of the leguminous family, about 10 meters high; the bark is gray, nearly smooth, and slightly longitudinally split; the tender branches are ribbed and sparsely pubescent. The leaf length is 20-30 cm; the leaf shaft and petiole have no glands and are puberulent; the leaflets are opposite. Racemes are born in the leaf axils at the tips of the branches and are arranged in a corymb-like shape; bracts are linear; sepals are nearly round; petals are yellow, broadly obovate. The pods are flat, with thickened edges; 10-20 seeds. Flowering from October to November; fruiting from December to January of the following year.
This species has a long history of cultivation in China. The wood is hard and dense, resistant to water and humidity, and free from insects and oysters. It is a high-quality furniture material. The old tree is black with beautiful texture and can be used as decoration for musical instruments. Because of its rapid growth, strong budding power, flammable branches and strong firepower, it is cultivated in large quantities in Yunnan as firewood forests. It uses head-like operations to cut the trees. After cutting, the trees are as high as 3-4 meters, and they are generally cut every four years.
