Description
Cinnamon (Latin scientific name: Cinnamomum cassia Presl) belongs to the Lauraceae family, a medium-sized tree of the genus Cinnamomum, and the bark is grayish brown. The leaves are alternate or nearly opposite, oblong to nearly lanceolate, leathery, marginal cartilaginous, involute, green, shiny, glabrous, petiole stout. Panicles axillary or nearly terminal. Flowers white, perianth lobes, filaments pilose, flattened, anthers oval-ovate, ovary ovoid. The fruit is oval, dark purple when mature, glabrous, and the fruit holder is shallow cup-shaped. Flowering period from June to August, fruiting period from October to December.
It is native to China, but also in India, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia. Like warm climate, like humid, avoid accumulation of water, but too much rain will cause root rot and leaf rot. Seedlings like shade, and mature trees can grow normally under more sunlight.
