Description
Dalbergia balansae (scientific name: Dalbergia balansae Prain) is a plant of the leguminous Dalbergia genus. Arbor, 6-15 meters high; bark gray-black, rough, with longitudinal cracks. Pinnate compound leaves are 10-15 cm long; leaf shafts and petioles are pubescent; stipules are lanceolate; leaflets are 6-7 pairs. The panicles are axillary, sparse, 5-10 cm long and 5 cm in diameter. The pod is tongue-shaped or oblong, 5-6 cm long, 2-2.5 cm wide, and narrow at both ends, usually with 1 seed, 2-3 thinner, and the petals have obvious reticulation on the seed part. Flowering in June.
Distributed in northern Vietnam and China; in China distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Sichuan, and Guizhou. It grows in mountain forests or shrubs at an altitude of 300-900 meters.
It is often planted as a shade tree or landscape tree in southern China, and it is also a host plant for lac insects.
