Description
Metasequoia (scientific name: Metasequoia glyptostroboides Hu & W. C. Cheng): Gymnospermaceae. Deciduous tree, branchlets opposite, drooping. The leaves are linear, alternately opposite, pseudo-two rows into a pinnate compound leaf shape, 1-1.7 cm long, with 4-8 stomata lines on both sides of the bottom. Hermaphrodite. The cones are drooping, subglobose, slightly 4-sided, 1.8-2.5 cm long, with long stalks; seed scales are woody and shield-shaped, each with 5-9 seeds, flat seeds, and narrow wings around.
There are about 6-7 species of Metasequoia in the Mesozoic Cretaceous and Cenozoic Era. It was thought to have been extinct in the past. In 1941, Chinese botanists first discovered this famous Chinese and foreign ancient rare in Moudao Town, Lichuan, Hubei (then Modaoxi, Wanxian, Sichuan). Relict tree species. According to recent surveys, giant trees more than 300 years old have been discovered in Wanzhou of Chongqing, Shizhu County of Chongqing, Lichuan of Hubei, Longshan of Hunan, and Sangzhi.
Metasequoia has strong adaptability, likes to grow fast and moist, it is cultivated everywhere in the south of Beijing. The material is light and soft, suitable for construction, sheet material, papermaking, etc.; the tree has a beautiful posture and is an ornamental tree in the garden.
