Description

Elderberry (scientific name: Sambucus williamsii Hance) is a deciduous shrub, up to 4 meters high. Stems without edges, many branches, gray-brown, glabrous. Leaves opposite, singular pinnate compound leaves; leaflets oval, elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base obliquely broad and wedge-shaped, with thick serrated edges, and glabrous on both sides. Conical cymes are terminal   , with thick serrated edges, glabrous on both sides, densely ovoid to oblong-ovate; calyx bell-shaped, 5-lobed, lobed lingual; corolla radial, 45-lobed , Lobes obovate, light yellow; 5 stamens, inserted on the corolla, shorter than the corolla; 1 pistil, ovary inferior, short style berries bright red. Flowering period from April to May, fruit period from July to September.
Born on hillsides, shrubs, ditch, roadside, houseside and other places at an altitude of 540-1600 meters. Produced in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong, and other provinces.
