Description
Ligustrum compactum (scientific name: Ligustrum compactum (Wall. ex G. Don) Hook. f.) is a plant of the genus Ligustrum in the Oleaceae family, shrubs or small trees, up to 12 meters high; the bark is gray-brown. Branches are yellowish brown, brown or gray, cylindrical, sparsely round lenticels. The leaves are papery, elliptic-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate, or long ovate. The leaves on flowering branches are sometimes narrowly elliptic or ovate-elliptic. The panicles are loose, terminal or axillary; peduncle is 0-3 cm long; inflorescence rachis and branch rachis are ridged. The fruit is oval or subglobose, often curved, blue-black or black; fruit stems are 0-6 mm long. Flowering period from March to July, fruiting period from August to December.
Distributed in China and the Himalayas; mainly distributed in the south of the Yangtze River in China and in Shaanxi and southern Gansu. It is cultivated all over the country. It grows in sparse valleys, dense forests and shrubs at an altitude of 680-3400 meters.
The branches and leaves are delicate, evergreen all year round, the trees are full of white flowers in summer, and they adapt to the urban climate environment. They are common green trees in the Yangtze River Basin. It is often planted in gardens for viewing, or used as garden road trees, or pruned for hedgerows. Ligustrum not only has strong resistance to sulfur dioxide, but also absorbs it. It also has certain resistance to hydrogen chloride, and also has the function of blocking dust and anti-smoke.
