Nepeta is very adaptable and likes the sun. It mostly grows in warm and humid environments. It does not have strict soil requirements. It can be planted in general soil, but it grows better on loose and fertile soil. It is afraid of high temperature and rainy seasons. Standing water, short-term standing water can cause death. Seeds are easy to germinate, and the temperature requirements for germination are not strict. Nepeta is resistant to high temperature and cold, but freezing damage will occur below -2°C, and continuous cropping is prohibited. Nepeta must have moist soil at the seedling stage, and is afraid of drought and water shortage. In the seedling stage, it likes a dry environment, and if there is too much rain, it will not grow well.

Before sowing, the seeds should be screened, the impurities and damaged seeds should be picked out, then soaked in water for 12 to 24 hours, taken out and dried in a ventilated and dry place, which can speed up the internal metabolism of the seeds, enhance the vigor, and improve the germination rate. . Due to the small size of the seeds of Nepeta, in order to make the sowing more uniform, you can mix appropriate amount of fine sand or fine soil when the surface of the seeds is dry. The ratio of seeds to sand is 3:1. On the furrow, use tools to ditch along the furrow. The distance between the ditch is about 20 cm and the depth of the ditch is about 5 cm. The seeds are scattered into the trench, usually about 1 kg per acre of land.

After sowing, cover the soil with a thickness of 1 to 2 cm, use your feet to be a little firm, and then use an iron rake to level the seeds so that the seeds are in close contact with the soil. Water after sowing to keep the soil moist on the border, which is conducive to seedling emergence. After sowing, it will take 10 to 15 days for seedlings to emerge when the ground temperature is 16~18°C. If the ground temperature is 19~25°C and the humidity is suitable, the seedlings can emerge in about 1 week, and the soil should be kept moist before and after emergence.
