Description
Oats (scientific name: Avena sativa L.) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the family Gramineae and Oats. The fibrous roots are tougher. The culms are erect, smooth and hairless, up to 120 cm tall, and jointed. Leaf sheath is loose, leaf tongue is hyaline membranous, leaf blade is flat, slightly rough, panicles spread out, pyramid-shaped, spikelets with small flowers; small cobs are nearly glabrous or sparsely short-haired, not easy to break off; the first lemma is absent on the back Hairy, base plate with only a few short hairs or nearly glabrous, without awn, or only one straight awn on the back, the second lemma is glabrous, usually without awn. The caryopsis are light brown and pubescent, and the belly is longitudinally grooved, and it blooms and bears fruit from April to September.
Oats are cultivated crops worldwide. But the main production areas are temperate regions in the northern hemisphere. The main producing countries are Russia, Canada, the United States, Australia, Germany, Finland and China. The main oat producing areas in China are Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Jilin, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Qinghai and Gansu. Small areas are planted in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Tibet. Among them, Inner Mongolia has the largest planting area. Love the cold and dry climate.
The grains of oats are used for grinding noodles or as feed, and have high nutritional value.
