Description

Purple bamboo (scientific name: Phyllostachys nigra (Lodd. ex Lindl.) Munro): the pole is 4-8 meters high, can be as high as 10 meters, and can reach 5 cm in diameter. The young pole is green, densely covered with pilose and white powder. Hairy, the rods after one year of birth gradually appear purple spots first, and finally all become purple-black and glabrous; the sheaths are triangular to triangular-lanceolate, green, but the veins are purple, boat-shaped, erect or slightly expanded later, slightly wrinkled Or wavy. The last branchlets have .2 or 3 leaves; the leaves are thin, 7-10 cm long and 1.2 cm wide. The flower branches are short spike-like, with 4-6 buds, glabrous or slightly hairy except for the edges, no ears, few or no hairs on the sheath mouth, and small leaves, usually cone-shaped or only one. The tip is small and can be larger and ovate-lanceolate. Spikelets are lanceolate, 1.5-2 cm long, with 2 or 3 small flowers; anthers are about 8 mm long; stigma 3, feathery. The shoots are in late April.
