Description

Podocarpus (scientific name: Podocarpus macrophyllus (Thunb.) D. Don), also known as Thunb. cedar, Podocarpus family, Podocarpus is an evergreen coniferous tree, up to 20m, with a diameter of 60cm at breast height; bark gray or grayish brown, shallow longitudinally split , Falling off into thin slices; branches spread out or obliquely spread, denser. The leaves are spiral-shaped, strip-lanceolate, slightly curved. Male cones are spike-shaped and axillary, with several triangular bracts at the base; female cones have solitary leaf axils, peduncle, and a few bracts at the base. The seeds are ovoid and round at the apex. When ripe, the fleshy aril is purple-black with white powder, and the seed receptacle is cylindrical, red or purple. Flowering from April to May, seeds mature from August to September.
