Description
Ophiopogon japonicus (Scientific name: Ophiopogon japonicus (Linn. f.) Ker-Gawl.) is a perennial evergreen plant of Liliaceae. It has thick roots and often swells into small oval or spindle-shaped roots in the middle or near the ends. The stem is very short, the leaf base forms clumps, grass-like leaves, bracts lanceolate, apex acuminate, seeds are spherical, flowering period from May to August, fruiting period from August to September. Ophiopogon is native to China and is also distributed in Japan, Vietnam, and India. Cultivated in southern China and other places. Born in the damp place, under the forest or beside a stream on a hillside below 2000 meters above sea level. The small root of Ophiopogon japonicus is a traditional Chinese medicine, which has the effects of promoting body fluids and quenching thirst, moisturizing the lungs and relieving coughs.
