Description
Ryegrass (scientific name: Lolium perenne L.) is a perennial plant with a stalk height of 30-90 cm and soft roots at the base nodes. The leaf tongue is about 2 mm long; the leaf blades are soft, puberulent, sometimes with auricles. Spike-shaped spikes are erect or slightly curved; small cobs are smooth and glabrous; glumes are lanceolate with narrowly membranous margins; lemmas are oblong, herbaceous, and smooth, with no awns at the top; two ridges have short cilia. The caryopsis is about 3 times its width. Flower and fruit period from May to July.
Good pastures are introduced and cultivated everywhere. Born in meadows and grasslands, common in roadside wetlands. It is widely distributed in Kashmir, Pakistan, Europe, the warm temperate zone of Asia, and northern Africa.
