Description

Our premium egg flower seeds have stable germination rate and upright small tree/shrub growth habit. Egg flower, officially named Plumeria rubra, also widely called frangipani, is a classic tropical aromatic plant. It bears dense bunches of five-petaled waxy flowers, mainly in white with yellow centers, pink, red and gradient mixed colors, releasing elegant rich fragrance especially in the evening. Thick succulent branches and leathery dark green leaves bring strong tropical style to the garden.
Egg flower features superb high temperature resistance and remarkable drought tolerance, thriving in hot full-sun environments. It blooms continuously from late spring through late autumn. Widely planted as courtyard ornamental trees, villa landscape focal plants, garden border single specimen planting, large container potted decoration and balcony sunroom green plants. It prefers loose, sandy, well-drained slightly acidic soil and is extremely afraid of waterlogged roots and freezing frost weather. Daily maintenance only requires watering after soil completely dries out, sufficient direct sunlight and winter frost protection in temperate areas, ideal for tropical-style landscaping and novice plant lovers.

Planting Instructions

  1. Soil Preparation: Use loose sandy loam mixed with river sand and granular stones; ensure ultra-good drainage, strictly avoid heavy clay and water-retaining soil.
  2. Sowing Method: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours to boost sprouting, lay flat on moist substrate, lightly cover 0.5cm thin sand soil.
  3. Germination Condition: Keep medium slightly damp but not wet, constant temperature 22–30°C, seeds germinate in 10–25 days.
  4. Seedling Care: Place under full sunlight; weak light will cause etiolated spindly seedlings. Keep ventilation to prevent seedling rot.
  5. Daily Maintenance: Water thoroughly only when the whole pot soil dries completely; stop watering in winter dormancy, move indoors when temperature below 5°C for frost prevention.

FAQ

Q1: Can egg flower survive freezing winter outdoors?
A1: Cannot tolerate frost and freezing temperatures. When ambient temperature drops below 5℃, must move pots indoors for overwintering.
Q2: Why do plumeria seedlings rot easily?
A2: Overwatering and poor drainage are the top causes. Keep soil dry between each watering round.
Q3: Does egg flower need lots of sunlight to bloom?
A3: Full blazing sun is mandatory. Shaded placement results in no flower buds and sparse growth.
Q4: Is egg flower suitable for pot planting?
A4: Perfect for large deep pots on balconies and sunrooms with enough sunshine.
Q5: Is it friendly for beginner gardeners?
A5: Easy to maintain once you master the rule “less watering, more sunlight”, low pest incidence.
