Spilanthes oleracea, commonly known as Toothache Plant or Buzz Buttons, is an annual medicinal and edible herb with stable germination rate and good heat resistance. It prefers full sunlight and loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil, adapting well to warm growing climates.
Its small yellow flower heads with red central discs create a unique ornamental look. The whole plant contains spilanthol, which brings a strong tingling and numbing sensation when chewed, traditionally used for relieving toothache and oral discomfort. Young leaves can also be added to salads as a special spicy edible vegetable.
This herb has strong vitality, rarely affected by pests and diseases, and requires simple daily management. Keep soil slightly moist without waterlogging. It is widely planted in medicinal herb gardens, landscape border decoration, kitchen edible herb areas and large balcony pots for dual-purpose ornamental and medicinal cultivation.
