Description
Soursop (scientific name: Annona muricata Linn.) is an evergreen tree of the genus Ranunculus, Annonaceae, and Annona. Up to 8 meters; rough bark. The leaves are papery, obovate-oblong to elliptical, with emerald green and shiny surface, light green back, and hairless on both sides. Flower buds are ovoid; flowers are light yellow; sepals are oval-shaped and persistent; outer petals are thick, broad and triangular; stamen filaments are fleshy, and the drug septum is enlarged; carpels are white and silky. The fruit is oval-shaped, dark green, and the flesh is slightly acidic and juicy, white; there are many seeds, kidney-shaped, brown-yellow. Flowering period from April to July, fruiting period from July to March of the following year.
It is cultivated in Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other provinces of China. Native to tropical America; now also cultivated in tropical Asia. The fruit is huge, sweet and sour, edible, and the wood can be used as shipbuilding material.
