Description

Tabebuia impetiginosa (scientific name: Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart. ex DC.) Mattos) is a deciduous tree belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. The trunk is thick, the bark is gray-white, and its surface is wrinkled, usually with pillar roots, and the branches are evenly distributed. The leaves are dark green and are about 30 cm long. The flowers are trumpet-shaped or funnel-shaped, light purple to dark purple or purplish red, and often form large terminal clusters in the leaf axils. Its fruit is a dark brown cylindrical pod that splits when mature, exposing its winged seeds.
The purple bellflower is native to countries and regions in Central and South America such as Brazil, Paraguay, Guatemala, Argentina, Trinidad and Tomago.
