Tamarindus indica (scientific name: Tamarindus indica), also known as capers, tamarind, sour plum (Hainan), "Muhan" (Dai language), sour fruit, ma ram, Tianmukan, Tongxuetu, Asian ginseng fruit. It is a tropical and subtropical evergreen large tree belonging to the genus Leguminosae. Tamarind is a single genus, only one of two types: sweet and sour, the main raw material of tamarind cake. The tree is tall, with a rough trunk, sparse branches and leaves, and bunches of hook-shaped pods hung on the branches.
Tamarind likes a hot climate and grows in areas with an average annual temperature of 18ºC-24ºC and an annual rainfall of 500-1200 mm.
