Description
Taxus (scientific name: Taxus wallichiana var. chinensis (Pilg.) Florin): It is a tree of Taxus, Taxaceae, and Taxus genus. It is 30 meters tall and has a diameter of 60-100 cm at breast height. The bark is gray-brown, Reddish brown or dark brown; winter buds are yellowish brown, light brown or reddish brown, shiny, with triangular oval bud scales, no ridges or longitudinal ridges on the back. The leaves are arranged in two rows, strips, slightly curved or straight, dark green on the top, shiny, and yellowish green on the bottom, with two stomatal bands. The male cone flower is light yellow, with 8-14 stamens and 4-8 anthers. Seeds are born in cup-shaped red fleshy arils, often ovoid, with narrow upper part, sparsely obovate, slightly flat or round, often with two blunt ridges on the upper part, and a short blunt tip with a protruding tip. The hilum is nearly round or wide oval.
The heartwood is orange-red, the sapwood is yellowish brown, the texture is straight, the structure is fine, solid and durable, and there is less cracking after drying. It can be used as materials for construction, vehicles, furniture, appliances, farm tools and stationery.
It is a tree species endemic to China, produced in southern Gansu, southern Shaanxi, Chongqing, northeastern and southeastern Yunnan, western and southeastern Guizhou, western Hubei, northeastern Hunan, northwest Guangxi, and southern Anhui (Huangshan).
